Tips & Tidbits

I've been doing some reflecting on the celebration of Thanksgiving and what we know about it. Consider reading this article written by Sean Sherman, the CEO of the Sioux Chef and author of The Sioux Chef's Indigenous Kitchen.

In the article, Sherman highlights some inaccuracies of the story of the first Thanksgiving many of us have been taught. He shares some of the ways he and his family have changed their practices around the holiday: shifting from the emphasis on colonialist history to shared values that everyone can relate to and thinking more about food.

It might be coming time for some of our staff to say goodbye to CAN's youth and children as our fall after school programs wrap up for the semester.

Take a look at CAN's guide for Saying Goodbye to Our Children and Youth for some reminders and tips that will help make the transition more constructive for both you and our kids.
