Tips & Tidbits
It's coming time for some of us to say goodbye to CAN's youth as the end of ASP approaches. As always, our guide to Saying Goodbye is a great resource for easing the transition. Since it's nearing the end of the school year, it could be great to consider organizing some more special memories for the kiddos.
Here are some ideas for making the end of the year memorable for youth, while still being sensitive of some of the feelings that may come up with goodbyes:
Memory board: have students come up with and write down a memory from any time during ASP over the course of the year and create a picture to go with it. Adults should participate, too! Once everyone is finished with their memory, have everyone share out, then add all of the memories to a bulletin board or large poster to go up somewhere around the center.
Web of kindness: on one of the last days of ASP, have everyone sit together in a circle and grab a ball of yarn. Explain that before you toss the yarn to someone else in the circle, you should share a memory you have of that person from this year at ASP or something you admire about them. Adults can help by setting an example and sharing first. As the ball is tossed, each person can wrap some yarn loosely around their wrist, which can later be made into a bracelet. At the end, you have created a web of good memories from ASP, and the bracelets can serve as a warm and fuzzy reminder of all of the connections you have made at CAN.
